On February 4, 2017, Crystal Sheppard opened Gwinnett’s first natural hair boutique – Kinks and Curls Natural Hair Boutique – in Lawrenceville, Georgia. Kinks and Curls Natural Hair Boutique is a beauty supply that exclusively caters to natural hair. The boutique aims to provide a comprehensive selection of natural hair products and supplies partnered with knowledgeable recommendations. Many of their products are specifically created for naturally kinky/curly hair still being handmade by the owners.

“I’ve been natural for many years, but found most larger product lines in the bigger stores did not work for my hair,” said Crystal Sheppard, owner of Kinks and Curls Natural Hair Boutique.  “I began buying many of my staple products online and realized these great smaller brands needed to be available in brick and mortar stores. I researched and found this model has found success in a few other states. So two years ago, I began the creation of my business plan to make the idea come to life! There’s a growing trend of black-owned beauty supplies and this particular niche is on the rise.”
