Happy New Year! In this issue, we explore the transformative mindset that defines our approach in 2024. We’re playing chess, not checkers, as we navigate the challenges of institutional racism and demand more from a society that has often fallen short of its promises.
“The Black Community: Demanding More in 2024” encapsulates the spirit of resilience, determination, and strategic proactivity that propels us forward. We refuse to accept the status quo or settle for mere symbolic gestures. Instead, we are taking charge of our destiny, employing intellect, strategy, and unity to challenge the barriers that have hindered our progress for far too long.
The game of chess serves as a powerful metaphor for our approach. We recognize that lasting change requires us to think several moves ahead, anticipating the counter-moves of those who seek to maintain the existing power structures. We are investing in knowledge, understanding the systems that perpetuate inequality, and leveraging our strengths and talents to make strategic moves that disrupt the narrative of marginalization.
Empowerment, however, is not a solitary pursuit. It is a collective endeavor that requires unity and collaboration. In this issue, we highlight the alliances and networks we are building to amplify our voices and effect meaningful change. We celebrate the achievements of individuals who are breaking barriers, as well as the initiatives that foster economic growth and educational opportunities within our community.
But our demands extend beyond immediate victories. We are committed to a long-term vision of equity and justice. We engage in the political arena, demanding representation and advocating for policy changes that dismantle systemic racism. We understand that progress takes time and perseverance, and we are unwavering in our determination to create a future where the Black community thrives.
As we explore the stories within this issue, we invite you to join us on this journey of empowerment. Let us challenge our perceptions, broaden our understanding, and stand in solidarity with the Black community. By embracing the spirit of playing chess, not checkers, we can collectively shape a future where equality and justice are not just aspirations but lived realities.
Together, let us continue to demand more, uplift one another, and forge a path towards a more inclusive and equitable society.
In solidarity,
Cheryle Renee Moses
